I just had to share this picture. This Schefflera is at least 10 years old and is now thriving. It is encouraging to all would-be indoor gardeners to see that the right care produces a lovely living specimen that will live you for years.
This is my sister-in-law's rescue Schefflera. It had outgrown someone's home and now is almost outgrowing hers. It can be pruned, if necessary. They do become elegant, strong trees and exude a deep calm in any room. Fortunately, they grow rather slowly and can grace your home for a long time. Scheffleras are quite easy to maintain in the house which is why they have been a desirable houseplant for years and years.
The commonly called Schefflera plant is botanically known as Brassaia actinophylla. These grand ornamentals are originally from Queensland and New Guinea.
- Prefers direct sun but usually do well with very bright indirect light.
- Water thoroughly when the top of the soil is very dry. It may be a few weeks between waterings.
- A large specimen like this one, in a 10"(25cm) diameter pot, should be watered with about 2 quarts (almost 2 liters) of water when ready.
- Fertilizing regularly is good for its health and keeping its deep rich color.
- Misting daily or as often as you can is helpful especially your place has low humidity.
