Variegated Philodendron cordatum

What a delight to come across a new philodendron hybrid! While visiting my florist, this was pointed out to me. The philodendron family has some of the easiest indoor plants to keep and they are great for beginners. This variegated version of a long-time houseplant favorite has enchanting golden yellow markings on its heart-shaped leaves and will brighten your day.

The philodendron, which literally means "life vine", can cascade freely from a hanging pot, sit on a tabletop or it can be trained to grow on a support, such as a piece of bark, mossed poles or a thick branch. Aerial roots grow from their vining stems and they naturally like to climb in the tropical forests of Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Central America.

You can send plants and flower arrangements almost anywhere in the world from this florist:

Care Instructions---
  • Bright indirect light or some morning or late afternoon sun. The amount of light it receives will determine how much golden color will appear in their leaves.
  • In smaller pots, 4'-6" (10cm-15cm) in diameter, water thoroughly when the top of the soil is dry.
  • In 8-10" (20cm-25cm) diameter hanging pots, let the soil dry out about 1/2" below the surface before watering with about a quart or almost a liter of water.
  • Prune a few selected vines back several inches from time to time to keep the plant full and lush looking. The cuttings root easily in water.
  • Fertilize regularly for best growth.
  • Prefers warm temperatures.
